Header tags

Header tags - Definition

Don't confuse header tags with the HEAD section of your Web page. Header tags belong in the BODY section of your document. Use the HEAD section for your TITLE and META tags.

Header tags are basically the thesis points on your page. The major points are larger while subheadings appear underneath in smaller text. Here's a sample of header text size:

This is how the Header tags look on this site:

H1 header tag

H2 header tag

H3 header tag

H4 header tag

H5 header tag
H6 header tag

Header tags are extremely important in SEO work. Header tags carry the flow of keyword importance in a descending order down the page. Proper keyword placement throughout your h1-h6 tags can deliver a strong weight of importance in your SEO page endeavors. Always be mindful of their placements.

When reviewing your code this is what a header tag looks like:

<h1>Main headline on page</h1>

Then somewhere down the page we encounter:

<h2>Sub-topic of heading on page</h2>

These are great for focusing your keyword power down your page.

For instance:

<h1>Accounting services in Grapevine Texas</h1>
<h2>Where can I find an accountant in Grapevine Texas?</h2>
<h2>Are accountants hard to find in Grapevine?</h2>
<h3>John Doe of Grapevine accountants was a big help in my acounting problems.</h3>

Notice how certain words ( Grapevine, accountant) were logical used in a descending order down the page.
