Putting your website URL in the ranks of a directory provides a link back to your website that will hopefully not go away any time soon. Harnessing the directory powerBeing able to harness the linking power in a directory is a marvelous thing with the current algorithms that Google and the other big boys are currently using. Having alink back to your website from a directory effectively gives your website another vote in the all important popularity contest that the search engines are involved in. This means that a link pointing to your site is a vote in the eyes of the ever watching ever counting search engine indexes. More votes usually equals more visits. This is achieved because with more votes comes more popularity in the search engine rankings which in turn moves you up the lists to a higher position.
